My Approach to Care
While medications can often be very helpful for a range of issues, they are not always necessary and rarely the whole solution. When working with you, I may recommend some or all of the following interventions to help you achieve optimal health
· Evidence based medication treatment – I will describe medication options and discuss their potential benefits and side effects, but there is no obligation to start or change medications at any point in our work together. If you are interested in reducing or stopping medications you are already taking, I will be happy to work with you on a thoughtful plan for how to approach that
· Sleep – Sleep has a huge impact on our physical and mental health. I will work with you to ensure you are able to get the right amount of restful sleep to support your health
· Physical health – I will evaluate and help address any medical and or hormonal issues that may be impacting your mental and emotional health, and potentially recommend checking labs and/or referring you to specialists when needed
· Lifestyle – We'll review your nutrition, exercise, substance use, work habits, family, and relationships to see if any changes could improve your health and happiness
· Psychotherapy – Some people benefit from working with a therapist on psychological interventions to help strengthen their coping, process complex and challenging emotional experiences, and work towards living in accordance with their goals and values. I am sometimes available to provide psychotherapy in addition to medication treatment. When I don’t have availability for that, I can help provide referrals for the right type of therapy
· Integrative therapies – For patients who are interested in integrative treatments, I may recommend certain evidence-based supplements, mindfulness or other contemplative practices, acupuncture or other energetic treatments, osteopathy, nature therapy, etc
Whether we are adjusting a dosage or discussing a mindfulness practice, my goal is the same: to help you move from a state of "surviving" to one of "flourishing."
